"Channel formed" is a relatively new term used in the grill/BBQ industry. It describes a type of cooking grid that is constructed of "U" shaped slats, for lack of a better term, instead of the traditional round rods. The slats are formed by pressing/stamping thin flat metal, such as stainless steel or porcelain coated steel, into a "U" shape.
